Lowering price will likely help drive PS3 sales but the machine's competitiveness still falls short of that of the Wii, analysts say.

***** the price is too high then that they are cutting prices...crazy...no crazy would be buying a console with a 33% fail rate (RROD FTW).
I own all 3 consoles (though I barly play the 360 because of lack of good titles and the wii for the same reason pluss the fact that it can't run on my HDTVs native resolution so it looks so awefull its hard to play) and the PS3 is by far the one I enjoy the most.
Of the Next Gen, the only console to have 100% compaitbility is the Wii.
Sony should have done us all a favor and kept the discontinued 20gb model around - it's basically the same as the 40gb but had both PS1 and PS2 compatibility and still had the same retail price point.
I'm a current PS3 owner, and offering the choice on PS2 backward compatibility is a good thing. It doesn't affect the playability of PS3 games at all, so that's a much better approach than Microsoft not including a hard drive with all models.
There are some amazing games coming out for the PS3, and they will definitely sell systems. I just received the demo disc for Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, and it is absolutely jaw dropping. It looks and plays like a Pixar cartoon come to life, and it's a ton of fun.
Ratchet & Clank, Gran Turismo 5, and Metal Gear Solid 4 are just a few of the console exclusives that will help keep the momentum building for the PS3. Given the fact the newest PS3 model contains a Blue-Ray player and a hard drive still, it makes it a heck of a bargain compared to any of the XBox 360 SKUs.
Just because they improved the deal from "killing your dad and screwing your mom" to just "screwing your dad", doesn't mean it's all of a sudden a good deal.
Make no mistake, they hate you, the consumer. They think you're all ungrateful for not buying their PS3 at $599 and have stomped and kicked all the way to this point.
