U.S. agriculture is one of the most efficient industries in the world. Unfortunately, warming in California and the Midwest will affect the ability of farmers to grow food. Water worldwide is an increasing problem.
In New South Wales, Australia, politicians are already debating whether to curtail the wine industry in favor of human water consumption, said Jeff Fulgham, chief marketing officer for the water and process technologies division at General Electric. Some of the problems may be ameliorated through desalination and other water conservation techniques.
