A123 Systems has developed a battery platform that's being used in power tools for its longer life and power. The company has plans to use that same technology in plug-in cars and in backup power supplies to data centers. The battery pictured here fits in the back of a plug-in hybrid, letting the car go about 30 miles. The company recently signed a research partnership with General Motors.
