As CNET News.com's Martin LaMonica takes a tour of the network operations center, a pager alert comes from ISO New England, which manages power generation and distribution in the region.
His tour is quickly detoured, as technicians quickly react to the event by contacting customers whose energy use would be dialed down. In addition to the power grid being overtaxed, an event could also be started by a failed piece of power equipment.
