Yahoo late on Messenger for Vista

Windows users await Yahoo Messenger for Vista.

A CNET News.com reader served as my personal tickler file this week, asking me if I knew when Yahoo Messenger for Windows Vista will be released.

In January, Yahoo previewed a version of Messenger optimized for Vista and said it would be released in public beta during the second quarter, which ended June 30. So, they are about three months behind schedule.

I asked Yahoo about it and here is the company's reply: "We continue to actively work on Yahoo Messenger for Windows Vista and look forward to sharing updates and information including the beta launch of the new service. We will keep you up to date on launch timing but in the meantime, information is available on the Yahoo Messenger blog and the Yahoo Messenger for Windows Vista product page."

Curious about a delay with a product? Got some other tip you want us to follow up on? Send them our way.

The concept looks pretty cool. Let's see how it is materialized. I just
switched back to XP from Vista, donno if it is going to work on XP
though.

Funny...

Funny, just before I saw this article, I was thinking the exact same thing that this author was thinking: "When is yahoo going to finish yahoo instant messenger for Vista?" I know the current version is compatible, but it would be nice to get the one optimized for Vista. I've been patiently waiting since I got Vista in late March.

Vista is bad
by flickrz September 16, 2007 6:25 PM PDT
Isn't it ironic. Yahoo messenger for vista is using WPF that where as even Msft isn't using it. I guess they(msft) know how bad windows vista is so they aren't even trying it.

As is the new Messenger for Mac...

Yahoo Messenger 3.0 beta 1 has been out for over a year with no
signs of a beta 2. Maybe if Yahoo would quit trying to take down
Google and MySpace we'd have it already!

what's the big deal?
by menty666 September 17, 2007 4:32 AM PDT
I have a machine that has Vista on it, it's running the current Yahoo IM. It works. Are they "optimizing" it by putting more adware in? Maybe yet another irritating browser bar checkbox to undo?

Dissapointing

What really makes me mad, other than a fact that they're so late, is that they don't post any updates or communicate with their users about it. Not even on their blogs. Why in the world would they announce it in January? Yahoo Mail was suppose to be completely out of beta by August 30. It's October 10 and only 1/1000 of the users are not in beta any more. I just don't get it. Numerous other things are wrong. I think Yahoo! is going down. Obviously something is going wrong!

my persistence
by hmj_2003 October 22, 2007 4:10 AM PDT
It was because of my persistence, to my knowledge at least, that got Yahoo to post an update found on their blog site at: http://blog.messenger.yahoo.com/blog/2007/10/17/yahoo-messenger-for-windows-vista-getting-closer/

I've been posting comments requesting to know the release date or even an update for the release of their promoted product. I did this on each and every blog posting they've posted and some if not all of my comments got deleted. Until finally they posted the first update that they've put since the public acknowledgment of Yahoo Messenger for Vista. They posted release date as "getting closer." Check it out guys. I know I'm running late on this but I'm trying to spread the word out the Vista users.

One more thing, I still get a smile of relief reading the first sentence "Thanks to everyone for your enthusiastic comments on this blog..."

Interesting view you have there
by ckojam October 23, 2007 9:33 AM PDT
I don't think it was because of 'your persistence' but because 90% of people on that blog, comment and request an update for Yahoo Messenger for Vista no matter what is in the blog subject line. And also this is not the first, but second http://blog.messenger.yahoo.com/blog/2007/06/26/so-you-want-to-hear-about-vista/ <fake> update from them. However, if it makes you happy to take a credit for some update from Yahoo that didn't tell us anything new or precise, go for it!
