Does Al Gore deserve the Nobel Prize?
For someone who has a reputation for being boring and wooden, Al Gore certainly is polarizing.
News.com Poll
Supporters assert that he has been one of the principal actors in bringing awareness to global warming and prompting governments and industry to take action against greenhouse emissions. While a lot of people became familiar with his work through the recent film "An Inconvenient Truth," Gore has been writing on the issue since the '80s.
Detractors, however, say he's an opportunist who exaggerates the scientific evidence and doesn't even follow his own advice. Witness the furor over reports that his mansion in Tennessee is an energy guzzler.
On Friday, Gore shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which has been assembling comprehensive scientific reports and recommendations on global warming for the U.N. The prize has also revived talk that Gore may run for president in 2008.
"He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted," said Ole Danbolt Mjos, chairman of the Nobel committee, as quoted in CNN.
But what do you think? Visionary or hypocrite? Does he deserve the prize? Write a comment in the TalkBack section. A poll will be up soon.

could. He is full of hot air and has a following of worshipers. He
did NO research on his own, deserves no award other than for
scaring people and causing undeserved panic.
Without clear cut explanations of these past extremes in weather I'm a little hesitant to embrace the politically charged explanation that Al Boring and his buddies are insisting is the only answer.
Is the Earth warming? Yes. Is it caused by manmade emissions, I don't know. To embrace that as fact you have to disregard the fact that co2 emissions rose from 1940 thru 1970 and yet global temperature actually fell. There are some serious questions that need to be answered before we go storming into a multibillion dollar solution for a problem that might not exists for the reasons we think. Something to think about.

of great concern to all of us. His personal motivation is
secondary to the fact that what he is doing is forcing people to
recognize and talk about the issue. And regardless of our
personal opinions, it will lead to a better understanding of our
planet. If our gluttonous lifestlyes and reckless consumption of
natural resources are to blame for global warming, only time will
tell for sure. But that doesn't mean we should sit back and take
the classic wait and see mentality. Like a suspicious mole or
lump on a breast, this is something we can't afford to put off.
We should all get over the love or hate AL Gore mentality and do
some research on the topic for ourselves. Don't let politics,
bloggers or ignorant radio hosts sway your opinion. Think for
yourself for a change America!!!
Now, if Al Gore turns out to be right about the other stuff, aren't we all screwed?
There's no harm in conservation, but there might be a harm in not conserving. I'll take my chances and conserve.
