Limbaugh appeals to Apple's Jobs for help

Even the rich and famous can't always depend on their megaphones for technical support.

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh is having trouble with his four Mac Pros, which he recently upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5.2. Apparently he's having some sort of issue with Leopard that he thought would be fixed with the latest update, but it wasn't, and Limbaugh joked about making a personal appeal to Apple CEO Steve Jobs for technical support.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs is probably not a dittohead.

Limbaugh posted a transcript of an exchange from his Tuesday show concerning the Leopard update. "I've been having two problems since I went to Leopard that I hoped this update would solve, and it didn't solve them; and it's frustrating. ...(Apple representatives) file reports and get lost in the Apple bureaucratic system -- and occasionally a good-intentioned, good-hearted Apple rep will get on the phone, try to solve it, and will say, "Yep. It's the same problem I'm having on my machine."

Limbaugh didn't get into exactly what type of problem he was experiencing, but figured that Jobs might not be all that receptive to his pleas for help. Jobs is a noted Democratic supporter, even nominating former Vice President Al Gore to his board of directors and openly urging him to run for president this year.

One of Limbaugh's employees drove the point home: "If you put out this appeal to Steve Jobs and ask him to help, his reply is going to be, 'Mr. Limbaugh. Do us a favor and endorse Windows.'"

Limbaugh is actually a longtime Mac user and Apple supporter, openly talking for years about his preference for Macs on his radio show. And back in 2006, he was able to get Apple to change the way iTunes handled podcasts that were only open to members of a club or organization. Although if you believe the latest studies, Mac users are supposed to be more liberal and open-minded than the average person. Go figure.

The more interesting question is what is plaguing Limbaugh's Mac Pros. I e-mailed Limbaugh through his Web site asking for more details, and I'll let you know if I hear back.

Tom Krazit, a staff writer for CNET News, focuses on all things Apple. He has covered traditional PC companies such as Dell and Hewlett-Packard, chip companies such as Intel and Advanced Micro Devices, and mobile computers ranging from Research In Motion's to Palm's. E-mail Tom.

Rush,

You should simply start over to re-install and run Windows on your
Apple. That way you can have less independence on the music
company based on Infinite Loop.

Good luck!

I always love to see examples of "unbiased" journalism.
Unfortunately, this article isn't one of them. Its pathetic.

He's suffering from a common problem among conservatives who
try to use contemporary technology called DEU (Defective End User)
syndrome...

Could it be that the the vast quantities of hot air Rush puts out got to the MacBooks Pros and toasted their little innards?

I resent that.

I'm a neo-neocon and I must say I resent that comment from the
liberal media. I don't know much about conservative views, but we
neoconservatives are open to a lot of ideas, like more corporatism
and overthrowing the government of Iran again, just like we did in
1953 when we overthrew Iran's prime minister and parliament for
not letting BP take all their oil. I'm sure that we'll be greeted as
liberators!

Steve Jobs would be wise to help Rush with his Time Machine
issues. I, too, am a conservative and I have used Macs since
1983. I don't think it really matters what political stripe with
which you identify - there are smart conservatives and liberals,
and there are also dumb conservatives and liberals. Mac lovers
are not "sheeple" - they are driven with individualist natures and
aware thinking.

Simply, Steve Jobs and Rush Limbaugh have on major element in
common - they aren't dumb.

Amarok curb stomps iTunes anyway.

In the end Rush was helpless because none of the people he talked to had the ability to /fix/ anything. That's utter crap. Report a bug over here, and very likely, it's already gone and you just need to run updates.

to everyone and hope the sheeple are stupid enough to start
believing your bull.

I'm appalled any mainstream source of news gives Limbaugh any

Limbaugh is just another Lunatic (Republican)
by Sea of Cortez February 14, 2008 8:34 AM PST
How is it possible that such brain dead lunatics as Rush Limbaugh get a talk show?
In fact when one turns on the Radio in US one hears one Lunatic (Republican) hate spewing fear mongering freak after another!
How is that possible ?
Who is behind hiring these people that are utterly brain dead and just there to support the lunatic policies of the Republican party?
And if you have any doubt by now that Republicans have become the Lunatic party read my post in this regard on my news Blog here:

Liberals...

Liberals are just idiot children of burned-out hippies from the '60s. Liberalism = Socialism = Communism, it's all the same thing. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

Limbaugh's true colors
by josh2000 February 14, 2008 11:44 AM PST
The thing that people forget is that Rush is an ENTERTAINER! His show is ENTERTAINMENT! As such he is comfortable with the platform that is popular in the entertainment industry.

Sure - he can be quite scholarly in his delivery. You may learn things from listening to him but you can learn things from watching cartoons too, if you're open to it. The fact that you can learn from Rush doesn't take away from the fact that he's a radio personality - a political satirist. He "thinks differently" on a daily basis. He's got to be creative to be able to explain things and approach issues the way he does. Otherwise he'd lose his audience. Creative types like Macs.

a number of people, even liberals, would become a "conservative" talk radio host. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if rush would vote for clinton or obama. After all, it would give him a lot to talk about if they get elected, more job security for him.

I'll put it this way: Republicans give Democrats a reason to be Democrats. and democrats give republicans a reason to be republicans.

Get thee to a Genius Bar
by avfolk--2008 February 14, 2008 11:33 PM PST
Maybe Rushbo ought to get off his lazy surplus and get his
Power Macs down to his local Genius Bar.

Since he is such a first class kinda dude -- he can whip out his
ProCare card and even make an advance appointment where a
politically-neutral genius will give him to same superb service
EVERYONE gets.

Does the egotistical iconoclast wish to make a POINT or get his
computers fixed?

Apple computers and politics
by ferretboy88 February 15, 2008 5:08 AM PST
When ever I go on an Apple forum everything is all about politics. Apple folks are way to the left. Talk about biased. I live in NY and as a republican I hear the other side to every issue every day. The Left wingers never hear the other side to anything. They only play with their anti american Euro buddies on the forums.

Screamin' & Rantin Steve Jobs
or
Pill popping pedophile Rush Limbaugh

I guess if I had to choose between being forced to use a Mac and forced to listen to conservative hate radio, I suppose its not all bad using an iMac.
