HTC Touch HD won't be coming to the U.S.

We hate to be the bearer of bad news, and you may have already heard or received the official HTC tweet, but the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer has decided not to bring the HTC Touch HD to the United States.

The tweet reads:

"sad news, US. we looked into it- by the time we could bring Touch HD to the states, it would be old news. we do have other cool stuff coming."

Hoping that it was some kind of hoax or miscommunication (or maybe it was just denial), we double-checked with our HTC contact, who confirmed the story. I suppose there is some consolation that there's "other cool stuff coming," but it's hard to forget the Touch HD's spacious 3.8-inch, VGA touch screen. Better dish soon, HTC, because you've whet our appetite and we're hungry.

That sucks.

I have never really gotten excited about a phone. I didn't care about the Razr. I wasn't overwhelmed by the iPhone. But as a Windows Mobile user, the TouchHD already had me saving up so I could afford one when they finally made it across the pond. And now we find out they aren't coming? Not fair, HTC.

And, no, I don't want it to come here with Android instead. Android might be cool, but I'm on Windows Mobile and don't forsee changing any time soon. Harrumph.

You could try buying it unlocked which was what I was planning to do. I saw an unlocked one for around $780. Which is pretty pricey, but if you really like the phone, I would buy it.

Haha, give 'em a break. They never cease to amaze me, so I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

I currently have a Shadow, and have fallen in love with it, so yeah HTC is pretty awesome

HTC is seriously underestimating the US market. I passed on the IPhone waiting for this item. I hope that my second choice, the Sont ExperiaX1, doesn't back out of the US market also. Shame HTC!

I love D-pads..so easy to navigate one-handed unlike the iPhony.

Not really a surprise....Free economy doesn't translate to free competition...You can believe the likes of Apple etc. worked diligently to make it next to impossible to enter the market.

Perhaps one day, we'll actually see a free market here in the US and no longer all these locked phones nonsense

just because it doesn't come here doesn't mean it won't be out of reach. We could still buy it online. The phone should still work in the US, right?

Yes, you can still buy it online. I think that it won't have 3G for North America, but it is Quad Band so it will work just fine. It will have HSDPA for Europe, I believe. You can still use EDGE here in the states.

@yiang:

Yes, you can still buy it online and it will work in the US (except the HSDPA since no US carrier has it yet). I bought my Dash unlocked as well before it came here. That's why I love GSM, swap the card and you are ready. It costs $799 unlocked and you can get it right here where I am going to get it : )

And this is the reason why Sprint loses customers because it doesn't get phones like the Samsung Omnia or the HTC Touch HD instead it gets the Instinct, Touch Diamond and Touch Pro. What a ripoff!

Now I have been watching the htc touch diamond then the pro. Now, I pulled off from buying a pro when I saw the touch hd. Its too bad for the united states market. I think this phone would have been the iphone killer. Just wondering if i can still buy one abroad and use it on my sprint network. Any help would be appriciated thx in advanced.

I currently have sprint in Arkansas and I was so pissed when I found out they were not going to bring it to the US. I was currently thinking on buying the HTC Touch Pro which is probaly good but the HD has 5.0 mega pixel camera to the 3.2 mega pixel camera on the Diamond and Pro.
My wife has the diamond and she likes it. It is much better than the IPhone. I wish they would get off this IPhone. It is old news. Currently I have the Samsung Instinct which is okay but it could be alot better.
Sprint does however need to work on getting better phone but there is one thing I can tell about Sprint.
I have not found a carrier out there yet that can beat there rate plan when it come to say the simply everything plan or the Family data Share package. I mean hell you get everything text, data, gps, music store, sprint tv and a lot more for only 129.99 for 1500 anytime mins for the first two lines and 19.99 for additional lines and 169.99 for 3000 mins for the first two lines and 19.99 for the additional lines. and the simply everything plan is 99.99 for everything including Nextel direct connect and group connect but that is for only 1 line but you get a discount on additional lines. check out there website for more details at www.sprint.com.
If anyone would be thinking of getting service through sprint or changing there service I would greatly appreciate the referal and you can contact me at timothyspease@live.com.
Thank You for any referals that I may recieve.
If anyone can also give me more details on the hd about working here on the sprint network I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks Again for any comments I may recieve.

Maybe they're just punishing us for whining so much about the TYNT II. We have it all in the U.S., yet we're all just a bunch of whiners!.

Hey Bonnie, you keep writing articles on the HTC Touch HD that say it has a VGA screen.. WRONG. VGA is 640x480, the HD shows 800x480. Care to correct yourself?

sprint instinct is crap, face it. touch hd is a iphone killer. wake up! win 6.1 on a device w biggest screen. 5mp cam. removable battery. your customers r leaving u for t-mobile or at&t just to get a iphone or iphone clone. everyone sigh this petition at
