The limited edition desktop computer has a unique flat-panel design made of metal and leather. Apple, which first announced the system at Macworld Expo in January, said the system
will also include a television, an FM tuner, and a specially designed sound system with separate subwoofer. The all-in-one design uses a 12.1-inch active-matrix display and a CD-ROM drive in an upright position.
The integration of computer and consumer appliance functions are indications of the future of technology design, Jonathan Ive, Apple senior director of industrial design said in a prepared statement.
Apple says it will offer only 12,000 units of the new Macintosh in five countries--France, Germany, Japan, United Kingdom, and the United States. A limited number of dealers will be offering the system for $7,500.
The company expects to ship the system in late June. A special concierge service will deliver the unit to the buyer's home and set up the unit.
